Taiwan has remained unwavering in its dedication to democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law, Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi said April 7 in Taipei City.
Chen made the remarks, which also elaborated on some of the challenges faced by the country, at a luncheon hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a parliamentary delegation from Luxembourg. The group, led by Chamber of Deputies member Stéphanie Weydert, also included fellow members of the legislature Ben Polidori, Liz Braz and Ricardo Marques.
The parties held in-depth discussions of geopolitical conditions, with a special focus on the Indo-Pacific and cross-strait security, according to the MOFA.
Chen expressed gratitude to Luxembourg’s legislature for passing motions in support of Taiwan’s meaningful involvement in international organizations and for speaking up for Taiwan at the World Health Assembly for three consecutive years.
In response, Weydert said that visits to local governmental agencies and civil groups on this trip have confirmed for her that Luxembourg and Taiwan are aligned on policies that promote and protect gender equality and child care, among others. She also lauded Taiwan’s vibrant society and pledged to continue pushing for its global engagement.
The ministry added that cooperation between the two countries would jointly uphold global peace and stability while also deepening cultural, economic, technological and trade collaboration to create mutual prosperity. (POC-E)
